چکیده

The derivation of effective spin models describing the low energy magnetic properties of undoped CuO 2 –planes is reinvestigated. Our study aims at a quantitative determination of the parameters of effective spin models from those of a multi–band model and is supposed to be relevant to the analysis of recent improved experimental data on the spin wave spectrum of La 2 CuO 4. Starting from a conventional three–band model we determine the exchange couplings for the nearest and next–nearest neighbor Heisenberg exchange as well as for 4– and 6–spin exchange terms via a direct perturbation expansion up to 12th (14th for the 4–spin term) order with respect to the copper–oxygen hopping t pd. Our results demonstrate that this perturbation expansion does not converge for hopping parameters of the relevant size. Well behaved extrapolations of the couplings are derived, however , in terms of Padé approximants. In order to check the significance of these results from the direct perturbation expansion we employ the Zhang– Rice reformulation of the three band model in terms of hybridizing oxygen Wannier orbitals centered at copper ion sites. In the Wannier notation the perturbation expansion is reorganized by an exact treatment of the strong site–diagonal hybridization. The perturbation expansion with respect to the weak intersite hybridizations is calculated up to 4th order for the Heisenberg coupling and up to 6th order for the 4–spin coupling. It shows excellent convergence and the results are in agreement with the Padé approximants of the direct expansion. The relevance of the 4–spin coupling as the leading correction to the nearest neighbor Heisenberg model is emphasized.

Electronic Structure and Magnetic Properties of the Linear Chain Cuprates Sr 2 Cuo 3 and Ca 2 Cuo 3

Sr 2 CuO 3 and Ca 2 CuO 3 are considered to be model systems of strongly anisotropic, spin-1/2 Heisenberg antiferromagnets. We report on the basis of a band-structure analysis within the local density approximation and on the basis of available experimental data a careful analysis of model parameters for extended Hubbard and Heisenberg models. Both insulating compounds show half-filled nearly o...

No evidence for spontaneous orbital currents in numerical studies of three-band models for the CuO planes of high temperature superconductors.

We have numerically evaluated the current-current correlations for three-band models of the CuO planes in high-T(c) superconductors at hole doping x = 1/8. The results show no evidence for the orbital current patterns proposed by Varma. If such patterns exist, the associated energy is estimated to be smaller than 5 meV per link even if [formula: see text]. Assuming that the three-band models ar...

روش انتگرال مسیر برای مدل ‌هابارد تک نواره

We review various ways to express the partition function of the single-band Hubard model as a path integral. The emphasis is made on the derivation of the action in the integrand of the path integral and the results obtained from this approach are discussed only briefly.   Since the single-band Hubbard model is a pure fermionic model on the lattice and its Hamiltonian is a polynomial in creat...

Cu NMR Study of Spin Dynamics in Low - dimensional Spin 1 / 2 Antiferromagnets

63 Cu and 170 nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR) experiments are reported on copper-oxide compounds related to high temperature superconductors that are nearly ideal realizations of spin 1/2 Heisenberg antiferromagnets with different geometries of the magnetic interactions: 1 dimensional spin chains, 2 dimensional planes, two coupled chains (two-leg ladder),...
